How to properly brush and floss

Tooth brushing and flossing play an important role in achieving a beautiful, healthy smile.

A beautiful, healthy smile that lasts a lifetime is our ultimate goal when treating patients.

Your tooth brushing plays an important role in achieving that goal.

Your dental care starts by eating balanced meals and reducing the number of snacks you eat.

Correctly using various dental aids also help control the plaque and bacteria that cause tooth decay.

Step 1

Place the brush at a 45 degree angle to the gums and gently brush using a small, circular motion, ensuring that you always feel the bristles on the gums.

N

Step 2

Brush the outer, inner, and biting surfaces of each tooth.

N

Step 3

Use the tip of the brush to clean the inside of the front teeth.

N

Step 4

Brush your tongue to remove bacteria and freshen your breath.

Electric toothbrushes are also recommended. They are easy to use and can remove plaque efficiently.

Simply place the bristles of the electric brush on your gums and teeth and allow the brush to do its job, several teeth at a time.

Flossing (with superfloss)

Daily flossing is the best way to clean between the teeth and under the gumline.

Flossing not only helps clean these spaces, but it also disrupts plaque colonies from building up, preventing damage to the gums, teeth, and bone.

N

Step 1

Take one pre-cut strand of superfloss using the stiffened end, thread the spongy-floss between each individual tooth and bracket.
N

Step 2

Using your thumbs and forefingers to guide the floss, gently insert the floss between teeth using a soft back and forth motion to remove plaque between each individual tooth and bracket.
N

Step 3

Pull the spongy-floss through to the regular floss section.
Gently slide the regular floss under the gumline.
Use an up and down motion to remove plaque and food from around each bracket.

You can purchase super floss in your dental practice or at your local chemist.
