Dr. Halton and Dr. Fitzgerald are delighted to announce an important and beneficial oral health promotion initiative.

As part of our special drive towards preserving beautiful smiles, we are providing a free sports mouthguard to all first year students of secondary schools in Kilkenny, Carlow and Portlaoise.

The GAA has introduced a welcome scheme from January 1st 2013, whereby all participants under the age of 18 are required to wear a protective sports mouthguard.  Castle Orthodontics in Kilkenny and Carlow, and in conjunction with Dr Enda Whelan at Churchview Dental Practice in Portlaoise, are offering a professionally made protective sports mouthguard for a discounted fee of €50 (first year secondary students complimentary).

Wearing a protective sports mouthguard from a young age when playing contact sports is important for many reasons.

A mouthguard helps cushion blows that otherwise can cause:

  • Broken teeth
  • Lacerations to tongue and lips
  • Jaw injuries
  • Concussions

Examples of sports for which you need a mouthguard:

  • Hurling
  • Gaelic football
  • Soccer
  • Rugby
  • Camogie
  • Boxing
  • Basketball
  • Hockey
  • Martial arts

We hope this service we are providing will help protect teeth and smiles in our local community.
